SEATTLE – (September 18, 2012) - Tomato growers, local chefs and tomato aficionados gathered at Cedarbrook Lodge for a harvest party dedicated to the celebration of Eastern Washington-grown heirloom tomatoes at the third-annual TomatoFare West, Sunday, September 9th.

“TomatoFare is one of our favorite events that we look forward to every year,” said Roy Breiman, culinary director of Cedarbrook Lodge. “From the tremendous turnout to creative and delicious dishes from each chef, this year’s TomatoFare was another huge success.”

Cedarbrook Lodge hosted the annual event in collaboration with the TomatoFare Growers Association to support organic farmers and to encourage the tradition of seed saving. Guests sampled a variety of heirloom tomato varieties including Mexican Midgets, Green Zebra, Red Barn, Amish Paste and others.

Chefs from some of the region’s best restaurants prepared an heirloom tomato-inspired dish for guests to enjoy at the event, including Diver Sea Scallop with heirloom tomato coulis, BLT salad with oven dried heirloom tomato and basil vinaigrette from Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar in Seattle; Heirloom Tomato Crostini with Kurtwood Farm camembert and heirloom tomato sorbet lollipop from TRACE in Seattle; Páte á Choux with candied heirloom tomato Chantilly, compressed watermelon, marinated cucumbers, aged balsamic, tomato jam and basil from Barking Frog in Woodinville, Wash.; and Basil Meringue with marinated heirloom tomato, Briar Farms goat cheese and micro basil from H5O bistro & bar in Portland, Ore. Other participating restaurants included Copperleaf Restaurant & Bar, Sazarac and CRUSH in Seattle, and Altitude in Welches, Ore.

To complement the culinary creations, several local wineries and breweries, including Pike Place Brewing Company, White Heron and Parejas Cellars, poured a selection of varietals and microbrews. Additionally, three different Heirloom Tomato Bloody Marys in green, yellow and red varieties were featured by Copperleaf Bar. Guests were treated to live entertainment by the Jacqueline Tabor Jazz Band.
