SEATTLE – (September 27, 2011) - In celebration of Eastern Washington Heirloom Tomatoes, Seattle’s Cedarbrook Lodge, a quintessentially Northwest hotel located on 18 acres of lush restored wetlands in Seattle, hosted the second annual TomatoFare West on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011.

Growers, local chefs, industry professionals and tomato fans gathered to enjoy organically grown heirloom tomatoes, in addition to wine, microbrews and music by local musicians. The daylong event was a collaboration with the TomatoFare Growers Association to support organic farmers and to encourage the tradition of seed saving.

“TomatoFare was a huge success,” said Roy Breiman, culinary director of Cedarbrook Lodge. “It was great to see the culinary creativity from the chefs, enthusiasm for tomatoes from the guests and an overall upbeat atmosphere at the event.”

Chef participants included Mark Bodinet of Copperleaf Restaurant at Cedarbrook Lodge, John Sundstrom of Lark in Seattle; Bobby Moore of Barking Frog in Woodinville, Wash.; Seth Caswell of Emmer & Rye in Seattle; Jacob Wiegner of Blackboard Bistro in Seattle; Shannon Wilkinson of Little Water Cantina in Seattle; and Nick Yanes of H5O bistro & bar in Portland, Ore.

Guests tasted beers from Seattle breweries Maritime Pacific Brewery and Pike Place Brewing Company, as well as varietals from White Heron Cellars, Chatter Creek Winery, Wineglass Cellars and Tertulia Cellars. Additionally, Seattle Creamery served two varieties of heirloom tomato sorbet. TomatoFare West featured live entertainment by Jacqueline Tabor Jazz Band.
