Cedarbrook Lodge to host event celebrating local Heirloom tomato harvesting

TomatoFare West at Cedarbrook Lodge

SEATTLE – (July 19, 2010) - Cedarbrook Lodge, a quintessentially Northwest hotel located on 18 acres of lush restored wetlands in Seattle, is pleased to host the first annual “TomatoFare West” Festival in collaboration with the TomatoFare Growers Association on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010.

Local growers, chefs, industry professionals and tomato fans are invited to this daylong culinary harvest party and networking event celebrating the many varieties of organic heirloom tomatoes grown in the Pacific Northwest. Guests will spend the day with other tomato aficionados enjoying local heirloom tomato varieties, wines, microbrews and music by local musicians.

Some of the region’s top chefs will prepare and present dishes made with a variety of heirloom tomatoes, including Bush Beefsteak, Ananas Noire and Black Zebra tomatoes with the goal to celebrate the season’s harvest and encourage families to continue the tradition of seed saving.

Chef participants include Mark Bodinet from Copperleaf, Kristine Keff from Flying Fish, William Balikis from Mistral Kitchen, Gabriel Claycamp from The Swinery, Jason Wilson from Crush, Dalis Chea from Fresh Bistro, Bobby Moore from The Barking Frog in Woodinville, Wash., Paul Bosch from Altitude in Welches, Ore. and Michael Young from Olives Café & Wine Bar in Edmonds, Wash.

Seattle breweries Maritime Pacific Brewery, Hale’s Ales Brewery, Pike Brewery and Naked City Brewery will pour samples during TomatoFare along with select local biodynamic and sustainable wineries from the Northwest region.

TomatoFare West will also feature live entertainment throughout the day. The vocal, guitar and upright bass ensemble, Black Lab Trio, will perform classic jazz music from 12-2:30 p.m. and acoustic guitar group, First Circle, will perform jazz, pop, Latin, and funk music from 3-5 p.m.
