Museum of Glass
Hot glass. Cool art. If you have even the slightest amount of ‘tourist’ in you, the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA is a ‘must see’ when you stay at Cedarbrook Lodge and have a few dedicated hours to allocate.
You can visit. You can learn. You can watch. Visitors can even view live glassmaking in the Hot Shop whenever the Museum is open.
There are exhibitions. Visiting artists collections. Outdoor art. There’s even a kids’ design class every periodically.
In fact, the unique architecture of the Museum of Glass is a work of art in itself. In addition to the distinctive Cone, its outdoor plazas feature reflecting pools that highlight the interplay of Northwest weather and light on the evocative glass sculptures that are placed in or near the water.
The 2,500 square-foot Museum Store is the exclusive dealer for products created by the resident team of glassblowers in the Museum of Glass Hot Shop. Among items for sale are hand-made glass and ceramic pieces by contemporary artists, a comprehensive book section, fine jewelry, as well as toys, kits, books and games for children.
Stop in to Gallucci’s Glass Café for a morning sweet treat and coffee or a delicious lunch. It is open every day the Museum is open. And every Friday from 11:30 AM to 1 PM, visitors can watch some of the region’s hottest talent create artwork from molten glass in the Hot Shop while enjoying a delicious boxed lunch from Gallucci’s.
